This is the Surf City Swing Bridge in Surf City, NC that runs from Surf City to Topsail Island on NC 50/210. It is one of two access points to the island. This vintage swing bridge was built shortly after the town incorporated in 1947, in the early ’50’s. The bridge swings open to allow passage of boats that are too tall to pass. It opens up every top of the hour.
This bridge will be taken down in a few years. The North Carolina Dept. of transportation is building a new “high” bridge to replace the swing bridge and is expected to open in 2020. I have started a series of photos to preserve the memory of this beloved bridge that are for sale as prints.
I’ll add new ones as I take more photos, so please check back. I will also announce new images on my Facebook Page, so be sure to go there and “like” the page to get those notifications, or you can sign up to receive a notification when I add new items. And be sure to contact me with any questions, I am easy to get in touch with!
